Rep. O’Malley: Deadline approaching for child care grant applications
RELEASE|December 1, 2021

State Rep. Jack O’Malley, of Lake Ann, today announced pivotal child care grants are available for licensed providers to help deliver needed care for more Michigan families.

The current year budget allocated $1.4 billion for child care, with half earmarked for grants which would go to child care providers directly. The first application stage remains open, allowing providers to see if they are eligible for $1,000 retention bonuses for staff, recruitment bonuses to help with hiring and thousands of dollars to support operations. Applications are due by Dec. 8.

“I fought for child care resources within the current budget because I understand what it means for our economy and Michigan families,” O’Malley said. “As people continue to go back to work, they need reliable care. The process gets stuck otherwise. This is needed funding to keep our child care industry stable and able to meet the needs of families throughout northern Michigan and the state.”

Interested providers in northern Michigan can learn more and apply for the Child Care Stabilization Grant at Michigan.gov/childcare. They can also access the Michigan Department of Education for additional information
