Rep. Glenn leads Michigan House budget plan boosting dam safety; work on broader plan continues
RELEASE|June 25, 2021

Rep. Annette Glenn, R-Midland, today led the Michigan House’s approval of a budget plan improving dam safety in Michigan.

The plan for the upcoming fiscal year approved by the House includes $15 million for a dam safety emergency fund. It also includes $1 million to fund a new dam safety grant program. The budget plan advances to the Senate where it could be considered next week.

“I am looking forward to completion of the budget plan for the upcoming fiscal year. It will strengthen dam safety programs in the state and set the stage for even greater improvements to come,” Glenn said. “After what has happened last year in our community, we’ve got to keep working to ensure it doesn’t happen again – here or anywhere else in Michigan.”

Glenn said that after the plan for the upcoming regular budget year is finalized, she will continue her efforts toward legislative approval of an additional supplemental budget plan that could add another $500 million in one-time funding for dam safety.

Glenn chairs the Michigan House Appropriations subcommittee for the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. She also helped craft the budget plan that will provide record-high funding for Michigan K-12 schools — $16.7 billion, up nearly 8 percent from current year levels.
