The state of Michigan is recognizing the important and diligent work of some of our frontline workers today under a resolution authored by state Rep. Bryan Posthumus to make Feb. 22 Supermarket Employee Day.
The 140,941 food retail jobs in the state generate more than $11 billion in economic activity, and the need for supermarket employees is greater now than ever before as the state continues to face an unprecedented pandemic.
“As families prepared to stock up on supplies and food while facing a restricted economy, the employees at grocery stores across the state continued to meet and exceed the challenges of the situation while displaying courage, compassion, dedication and leadership,” said Rep. Posthumus. “These are the men and women who kept our shelves stocked as we faced a global crisis, all while maintaining great customer service and community outreach.”
There are nearly 6 million supermarket employees across the nation who continuously provide Americans with access to safe, healthy and affordable food.
The Posthumus resolution, approved by the Michigan House last week, officially recognizes Feb. 22 as Supermarket Employee Day.
