House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, on Wednesday issued the following statement after the Washtenaw County prosecutor announced charges against a Chinese national, who is not a U.S. citizen and is accused of casting a ballot in the upcoming election:
“Democrats are responsible for letting this Chinese national illegally cast a ballot in our elections. Michigan Democrats have ripped away crucial election security measures over my objections, and Democrats in Washington have blocked the SAVE Act that would keep noncitizens from voting by requiring proof of citizenship. Only U.S. citizens should vote in American elections, but because of Democrats, this foreign national was able to just sign a form and vote without providing proof of citizenship.
“Democrats in the U.S. Senate must stop their ridiculous obstruction and pass the SAVE Act so that Michigan and other states can secure our elections and keep noncitizens from voting in the first place. And in Michigan, we need to undo Democrats’ attacks on our elections, strengthen ID and citizenship verification requirements, and end the practice of issuing untraceable on-demand ballots.”
In June of 2023, Hall predicted that Michigan Democrats’ radical changes to Michigan election law, including the creation of on-demand ballots for early voting and weakening of voter ID requirements, would weaken election security and lead to voter fraud.
